The world population is nowadays more than 6,7 billions. Africa represents 950 millions or 14%. The world
population increases by 60 000 people per day. African population doubled between 1980 and 2005 and within the
same period, the debt was multiplied by 3! The demographic growth (more than 2%) in Africa remains the highest
worldwide. Half of African population is below 17 years old whereas the world median is 23. Few countries in North
Africa (Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia) are about to control their birth policy; nothing is done in Sub-Saharan
Africa where the rate by woman is 7 kids which corresponds to more than four times the rate in developed
countries! Current studies show that a control of birth rate goes with a better education of kids, especially

The weight of Africa in the worldwide business has dropped. Africa represents currently slightly more than 2% of the worldwide volumes of exchange whereas its population represents 14% of the total. The situation has not been always as such. By end of the fifties, Africa represented 14% of the worldwide business for 9% of the population.
